Unit 16 : LO1. Task 2

1.Firstly I need to open a New Project

2. Then I have to create a New Event

3. Media importing
To import any media there are few different ways
First of them is just right click on events wall and then choose Import Files.

Second way to import is go to File - Import - Files

4. To create a bin or folder - right click on your event and select New Folder

5. To change a name of a folder simply double click on it and change it for example to stills if uploading images or music if uploading some tunes.

6. I have imported a clip from film Pulp Fiction so by double clicking the name you can change it to whatever you want.

Cloning Effect

Above is an image of a photogram. This was achieved by laying some objects onto light sensitive  - sun print paper and exposing it to sunlight for 2 mins. Then I ran the paper under water for 5 seconds. The areas of the paper were exposed to light went dark blue and the areas which were not exposed to light went white. The mid tone was created by the shadows. This process is similar to producing a photogram in a dark room. The difference being that no chemicals were used to fix the image and I used daylight as opposed to lamp light. This photogram is a negative image. To produce the positive of the image I could have laid it on another piece of light sensitive paper and exposed it to sunlight this would have created the 'positive' image.

MIND MAP

To summarise my idea: is to produce a series of images around the title, 'Every Hero Has  Shadow'. This concept is about, it doesn't matter who you are but everyone has a dark side. The dark side could be things that someone has done that they are embarrassed by or it could be that they have secrets that they want to hide. I will use a cardboard box or cardboard glasses to hide her face because it is a visual representation of hiding from something, it also creates a physical barrier with the viewer. I want the model to only be wearing a few items of clothing. I think the juxtaposition of openness created by the model not wearing much will be contrasted against the model's covered vision.

To create this series of images I will need a model, a skirt, a roll of film (B and W), film camera, cardboard box,  cardboard glasses, tights, pants, and a modelling light.

Evaluation

This project was about different types of photography and I was asked to come up with an idea for photoshoot for a chosen magazine. I researched into different magazines and its themes and finally picked a magazine called Dazed and Confused. I picked this magazine because the pictures have a unique visual look and often the images have layered meanings. I had this idea for a long time and it was the perfect time to start it.

I have called my idea 'Every hero has a shadow' because it was about shadows. Everyone have a past and you can not delete it so you just keep it on your back. This was typified by using the film on the models back. This was an idea that I came up with during the process of shooting the images.

So I decided go for a black and white negatives and my old Nikon FM camera. I chose to use film because it has a particular quality which I think can't be replicated using DSLR. I took photos in the colleges' photography studio and I used only one light to achieve that shadow look.

Dazed and Confused magazined is for everyone. But the main readers is 16-30 years old, who are interested in art, photography and fashion. The magazine has an urban feel and most of their readers probably live in an urban environment.

I think I have done a great job, because they turned out how I visualised them before the shoot. The lighting worked well because  it created the type of shadow that I wanted. I wanted the shadow to fall behind the model so I located the light to the left of me and had at the same height as the model.

I experimented with Iford B and W film at 200ISO and a Kodak Colour Film called Portra. I also used my DSLR. Overall I preferred the images for the black and white film because I felt it work well with the theme and mood of the shoot. If I had to do it again, I would change maybe the film, as I have used film with low ISO and I think a higher ISO may have added a grainier look.

To improve this work further I would like to experiment with using a male model. I think the reading of these images might be quite different as we are more use to seeing semi naked women that we are men.

I did enjoy this unit as I was interested in photography since I was a kid. This unit allowed me to learn new techniques and to be creative as much as I wanted.

Fast Shutter Speed

ISO 800
1/300 f 4.5

Using fast shutter speed allows you to freeze the moment. To use fast shutter speed we opened up the aperture and used a strong modelling light. I also experimented with using a tripod. However due to the small area that we were filming in it was too awkward.

Light Graffiti images. We opened up the aperture to 4.5 and used long exposures of 15-25 seconds to capture the images below. We used a tripod to keep the camera still during the long exposure.

20 seconds.
ISO 100

Blurred Motion

Iso - 100
F/25
It is better to use a tripod to make background very sharp.

Panning Shot

Iso - 100
F/25
I have panned camera with the same speed as car passed. So I moved before and after and during pressing the shutter.

Shutter Zoom

Iso - 100
f/25
I have zoomed out when pressed a shutter. This creates a very dynamic image of an otherwise very static statue!

Fast Shutter Speed, with some post production using photoshop. I increased the contrast and moved the black point.

Light Drawing: These images I stitched together using Photoshop. I used my mobile phone to create the letters.

Light Trails: This is a long exposure over a very slow shutter speed of 3 seconds. The ISO was 200.

Light trails on the Southbank. This was a long exposure of 2 seconds. I did it hand held but perhaps should have used a tripod.

There is four different types of animation.

Object Animation

Object animation. This type of animation have attracted me the most. It is not very hard and there is so much fun. But one wrong movement and its over. So I have tried to make it as exact as possible.

Pixel Animation & Drawing Animation

There are two types of animation. I have done this animation with my classmate and we have decided to mix two different types. Pixel animation was not hard, because I just have to move my hand and take pictures. But drawing animation was the hardest part. It took us 5 hours to make it as we wanted it to be very clear.

Cut out Animation

In this type of animation it is very easy to make fast movements.
